Small weddings in Devon
I’ve put this post together in celebration of small weddings in Devon! Intimate weddings have become really popular lately as couples choose to celebrate their special day with their closest family and friends. At some points during the pandemic, small weddings were the only option but lots of couples are still opting for intimate weddings. Some couples are choosing to spend money elsewhere for example traveling or buying a house. I love capturing all the emotions of the day and that’s just the same at a smaller wedding. The weddings featured here have taken place at a variety of Devon wedding venues. Each couple created their own unique way of celebrating with their nearest and dearest.
Intimate wedding at Rockbeare Manor Exeter
Danielle & Charles had originally booked me for their wedding earlier in 2020 and we kept in touch as things developed. Once it was announced that wedding ceremonies could go ahead we rescheduled and I was delighted to capture their intimate summer wedding. This was the first of my small weddings in Devon and it didn’t disappoint! I joined Danielle and her mum as they got ready and captured those little bridal prep details. The ceremony took place outside and afterwards they celebrated with a socially distanced picnic in the grounds of the stunning Rockbeare Manor. Guests sat on blankets in their ‘bubbles’ and were treated to gorgeous hampers filled with goodies. It was a lovely, relaxed day and the bride and groom said it was just perfect!
Small church wedding in Paignton
Krystal and Simon originally planned to marry in May 2020 and had booked me as their wedding photographer. Throughout the lockdown we kept in touch and pencilled in several dates. Finally, everything came together and they were married at Collaton St. Mary Church in a small ceremony attended by their close family. I captured some photos of Krystal getting ready with her sister-in-law and niece before heading to the church. This was my first time shooting a wedding with a mask on. It took a bit of getting used to to stop the camera steaming up! Afterwards a few family members went back to the house for wedding cake and cream tea – perfect!
Elopement Wedding in Exeter
Jen and Jenn were married in a lovely, intimate ceremony at Larkbeare House in Exeter. Numbers at weddings were restricted at this time so they weren’t expecting to be able to have photos of the ceremony itself. I managed to shoot the ceremony from outside through a window though so these photos were an unexpected bonus! The natural couple shots were captured in the grounds and the girls were delighted with the end result.
Small wedding at New Barton Barns Wembury
Susie and Josh stuck to their original wedding date and decided to have a small wedding of 30 people set in the Devon countryside. They were married at Efford Christian Fellowship in Plymouth and their reception was at the gorgeous New Barton Barns. After greeting their guests in the courtyard over welcome drinks, we wandered to the cliff top to capture some romantic couple shots overlooking the Yealm estuary. At this point in the COVID restrictions, wedding receptions were allowed. It was so lovely to see a venue all set up awaiting guests! It was a joy to capture the speeches and cake cutting and even a first dance! Entertainment wasn’t allowed but Josh improvised and plugged his phone into the sound system so that he could have a first dance with his wife. A gorgeous sunset rounded off the day perfectly.
Small wedding at Bickley Mill Devon
Ashleigh and Dan postponed their wedding date three times so it was smiles all round when they finally got to say “I do”! Their ceremony took place at The Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas in Bovey Tracey. It was a scorching hot day in the middle of the July 2021 heatwave so we had a confetti throw and captured a few couple shots in the shade outside the church before heading off to the reception.
Back at The Bickley Mill, guests enjoyed welcome drinks on the terrace before the wedding breakfast. The dining room looked pretty as always, decorated by Rustic Love Hire and Flower la Vita. Later on when it cooled down a bit, we had a wander around the garden for some relaxed couple photos. I love the old barn at Bickley Mill, which makes a cute, rustic backdrop for the pictures.
