A Year in the Life of a Devon & Wedding Photographer

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a wedding photographer? Well, in my opinion, it’s one of the best jobs in the world! Each week I get to be with people who are happy and celebrating and the positive vibes cant help but rub off. I always go home at the end of the day on a high. Take a look with me at a year of wedding photography. Photographing a wedding is so much more than capturing the ceremony and newlywed portraits. Alongside these key moments, I’ll capture all the moments in between that you might miss on the day. Over the last 10 years, I’ve become an expert in anticipating those special hugs, smiles and giggles all come together to tell the story of your day.

One of my favourite parts of being a wedding photographer is when my couples receive their photos. Of course, there’s a lot of work behind the scenes before this can happen. Being a wedding photographer is my full time job so I can offer a quick turnaround to give my clients a great experience. I know you’ll be excited to see your photos so I’ll share a sneak peek in just a few days. I really enjoy editing all the photos making sure each one is perfect. They are then delivered in a beautiful online gallery ready for you to relive your day and spot all of the little moments you might have missed. Over a typical year, I shoot about 25 weddings. I prefer to keep to this number so that each and every wedding can have my full attention. 25 weddings between April and September means my Saturdays are all booked up. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer it’s never too early to secure your date.

Relaxed, natural wedding photographer in Devon

It’s lovey to see the seasons change as I photograph my way through the year. In the spring, I’m always on the lookout for blossom trees, daffodils and bluebells. Summer brings golden fields and the chance to capture candid photos of the guests as they mingle outdoors. When I think of autumn and winter weddings, I think of twinkly lights and open fires. Whatever the time of year, I’ll be scouting our the perfect spot for your couple photos. Golden hour is always a bonus!

Devon & Exeter Wedding Venues

Another great thing about being a wedding photographer in Devon is that I get to travel to some lovely places. I’ve battled with my sat-nav many a time as it tries to take me down country lanes! I would always recommend doing a recce before the big day so you know exactly how to get there. I’ve recently visited some gorgeous new venues including Upton Barn and Walled Garden, The Oak Barn Hittisleigh and The Barn at South Milton. As a recommended supplier, I also get to return to some favourite venues including Rockbeare Manor and Deer Park. It’s also lovely to meet the teams and wedding suppliers who do an amazing job to create your perfect wedding day. I’m also lucky enough to shoot weddings at some of the best wedding venues in Exeter, including castles, country barns and manor houses. It’s always exciting to visit new venues like Froginwell Vineyard and Powderham Castle. As an Exeter wedding photographer, I return regularly to some of the most popular venues so I know the best spots for your relaxed couple photos.

So what do I do in the quieter months? Shooting weddings is obviously the best part and takes up half of my year but there is always something to do when you’re running your own business! In the winter months I catch up with the less glamourous jobs like accounting and admin. I’m always striving to give my clients the best possible experience so I’ll book myself onto a couple of training courses. When I feel like I need to do something creative, I’ll update my blog with recent weddings and hints and tips for planning your big day. I also have free time to catch up with friends and family who might not have seen much of me during the busy season.
