The Old Vicarage Hampshire: A Relaxed Country House Wedding Venue
The Old Vicarage is a Hampshire wedding venue situated on the edge of The New Forest. This small country house was the perfect choice for Emily and Matt’s celebrations. The day began with bridal prep at Station House. You can find this 3 bedroom house on Airbnb and I’d recommend it for the night before your wedding and a place to get ready as it’s just a stone’s throw away. Emily and her bridesmaids had hair and make-up done here before we all made our way to the venue to finish getting ready. The bridesmaids were blown away when they saw Emily in her dress for the first time!
Indoor wedding ceremony at The Old Vicarage
The rain had other ideas when it came to having the ceremony outdoors so everything was set up in The Orangery. The rustic beams and fairy lights created an intimate atmosphere for the couple to exchange their vows. Emily’s vision had been for the aisle to be lined with bright pink and orange flowers and this worked just as well indoors. The vibrant colours were a great choice as they really brightened up a grey day.
Where are the best photo spots at The Old Vicarage?
One of the questions couples often ask is, “Will we still get lovely wedding photos if it rains?”. The answer is absolutely, yes! With over a decade of experience photographing weddings in all kinds of weather, I’ve learnt that flexibility is key. I keep an eye on the forecast throughout the day and look for opportunities whenever the weather gives us a little window.
After the ceremony, we made use of the venue’s covered walkway. This provided shelter from the drizzle while still making the most of the gardens. Knowing where to find these little pockets of cover comes with experience and allows us to keep creating beautiful, natural photographs whatever the weather.
After the wedding breakfast, the rain finally eased, giving us the perfect opportunity to head outside for some relaxed couple portraits around the grounds. The festoon lights in the garden created a gorgeous backdrop. Who can resists some twinkly lights? By staying flexible and adapting to the conditions, we were able to capture relaxed, natural photographs without keeping Emily and Matt away from their guests for long.
Speeches and celebrations in the marquee
The marquee hosted the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations. Capturing the guests’ reactions to the speeches is one of my favourite parts of the day. Laughter and happy tears take you right back to the moment when you receive your wedding gallery. We went outside briefly for confetti canons launched by the bridesmaids before the first dance. The marquee can seat up to 150 guests fro your wedding breakfast and it can accommodate up to 250 for larger celebrations in the evening. Is The Old Vicarage a Good Wedding Venue in Hampshire?
This was my first visit and I’d definitely say The Old Vicarage is a wedding venue worth considering. This charming country house built in 1852 is exclusively yours for your wedding. There are 6 bedrooms for you and and your closest guests and they even lay on an intimate breakfast the following morning. It’s in the village of Hinton near Christchurch just on the Hampshire and Dorset border so there are plenty of amenities and accommodation around for the rest of your guests (I stayed at a Premier Inn just up the road). You’ll even find Hinton Admiral train station within walking distance. The Orangery can seat 75 guests for an indoor ceremony. 100 can be seated outside for a wedding in The Summerhouse.
