Top 10 wedding venues in Plymouth 2024 chosen by a wedding photographer
I have been photographing weddings in Devon for over 10 years meaning I’ve worked at some gorgeous wedding venues all around the South West. At each venue, I’ve explored the rooms and the grounds and met the wedding planners and event managers that help to plan your day. Here are my personal recommendations of 10 top wedding venues near Plymouth and across the South Hams. The thing I love about Plymouth weddings is the variety of locations. With a choice of countryside, coastal and moorland wedding venues, there’s something for everyone!

1. Shilstone House
Shilstone House is a Georgian manor house providing an exclusive wedding venue near Ivybridge, just 13 miles from Plymouth. It offers indoor and outdoor ceremony options and the marquee looks stunning set up for your wedding reception. I really like the gardens which offer pretty spots for your relaxed couple photos and the marquee is light and airy so it’s perfect for capturing those speech photos. If you’re looking for a South Hams wedding venue, then this could be for you.

2. Kingston Estate
At Kingston Estate, the whole place can be yours for your wedding. I like the way you can turn your wedding into a weekend of celebrations as they have on site accommodation for family and friends. This also means you have access the day before to set up your wedding, helped by a dedicated team. Kingston Estate prides itself on being one of South Devon’s most unique and exclusive wedding venues. The grounds are stunning and there is a light and airy room for your wedding breakfast. The undercrofts is the perfect space for your evening entertainment and you can party into the night!

3. Holne Park House
Set in the River Dart Country Park just off the A38, Holne Park House is a gorgeous country house wedding venue. It’s inter-connecting rooms give you flexibility and the friendly wedding team will help you to plan your ideal wedding. The newly painted Ballroom hosts the wedding breakfast and there are four further rooms for guests to mingle and chat. The grounds provide different backdrops for your couple photos too, including the River Dart, and I love exploring with my couples finding spots for those relaxed couple portraits. If you’re looking for a Dartmoor wedding venue then take a look. I love that they have a great environmental ethos too so I’d recommend them to anyone planning an eco-friendly wedding.

4. The Barn at South Milton
Another pretty South Hams wedding venue, The Barn at South Milton, is in an elevated position with views over the South Hams coastline. The rustic barn is a blank canvas for you to decorate and create your dream DIY wedding. Thousands of fairy lights brighten up the space and look so pretty! There is accommodation on site and guests can camp too. You can choose your own caterers and you’re even allowed to supply your own alcohol for parts of the day like the welcome drinks. I found the team to be really friendly and helpful and will make sure your day runs smoothly. They’ve even featured one of my weddings on their blog!
5. The Green, Cornwall
Sometimes my work as a wedding photographer takes me into Cornwall. Just 20 miles across the border, you’ll find The Green. I’ve shot a few weddings here now and it’s a lovely little venue. Friends and family can stay in the cottages on site which I think is lovely and it saves travelling on the big day. You can hire this venue exclusively for a weekend or mid-week wedding. Indoor and outdoor ceremony options are available and the team are on hand to help your day run smoothly. There are woodlands and open spaces for your couple photos and some cute rustic barn backdrops too.
6. Horn of Plenty
Just 15 miles from Plymouth, the Horn of Plenty is an independently owned, country house hotel. They offer a choice of 4 rooms that are licensed for civil ceremonies. It the weather is on your side, you can opt for an outdoor ceremony with stunning views of the Tamar Valley. It’s such a pretty location and one of my favourite spots to capture a ceremony.

7. Trevenna Barns
If you fancy hopping over the border into Cornwall, Trevenna Barns is less than 30 miles from Plymouth. Up to 40 of your guests can stay on this barn complex. You can choose an indoor or outdoor ceremony and the gorgeous marquee hosts your wedding reception. They’ll even take care of the catering too! 8. Two Bridges Hotel
Two Bridges Hotel sits on the riverbank on Dartmoor. Its traditional interior is a cosy place for your guests to mingle and the reception room can seat up to 130 guests. They offer indoor and outdoor ceremony options. I captured a Christmas wedding here and it suited this time of year perfectly.
9. East Soar Farm
East Soar Farm is situated in the South Hams on the headland above Salcombe. It offers a blank canvas if you’re looking for a rustic, DIY wedding venue. There’s an on site caterers’ kitchen so you can bring in tour own choice of catering company. The stunning countryside provides the perfect backdrop for those relaxed, couple photos. I like the way every wedding looks different depending how the couple choose to decorate.
10. Boringdon Hall
Boringdon Hall is a 16th Century country manor that provides a grand, historic setting for your wedding. They offer indoor and outdoor ceremonies and accommodation is available on site for your guests. I can recommend the spa too if you fancy some pre-wedding pampering!
